Implant-Abutment Connection Configuration

Today a countless variety of different implant-abutment- and implant-crown-connections is available: external or internal, conical or butt joint, flat or scalopped, and matching or nonmatching. A short overview of the current developments and their rationals is given, according to technical, functional, biological and aesthetic considerations.
In the first part of this presentation, technical aspects are discussed concerning mechanical risks, potential for errors, prosthetic versatility and precision, and the clinical handling.
In the second part, biological and aesthetical aspects are discussed to answer the question: is there one superior concept?
All aspects are illustrated with numerous clinical cases.
